DC has delivered some bad films in the last couple of years. Films like Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League were not very successful when it comes to the reviews. Even though the films were box office hits, they were not perceived as good films by the audience.
DC has been unstable when it comes to its films. Due to many controversies like Zack Snyder being fired during Justice League production, Ben Affleck leaving the role of Batman, 3-4 directors leaving the project of a Flash film, the public relations of DC are not very good. The connect with the audience is missing on many levels. We cannot help but compare its films with Marvel. The emotional connect with Marvel is something that DC has not been able to achieve yet.
On the other hand, Wonder Woman was well received by the audience and is one of DC’s iconic films. Aquaman being the highest grossing film of the DC universe, was enjoyed by the audience. These 2 films have been massive hits for the DC universe as they stay true to the comics and the directors are given the authority to have their way with the films.
Wonder Woman was exactly how the director thought the audience would perceive it. A film that will inspire millions of women around the globe is something that the film was able to achieve. With Aquaman, there were some strong messages that the film tried to convey. Environmental problems and the pollution of the seas are some critical issues that the film addressed.
At this point of time, the future of the DC universe looks bright. With their upcoming film, SHAZAM, it is a lite-hearted film made for all the audiences. The film has already gotten great reviews before its release date and is predicted to be a massive hit for DC.
Other big projects like the sequel to Wonder Woman, a Black Adam film, Aquaman sequels are also looking bright because of the directors being the same. In the next couple of years, the audience is expecting a Superman film starring Henry Cavill (who still is not out as Superman)
At this point of time, we just hope that we get good comic book superhero films which has no behind the scene problems and is of good content.
